Little gem!

After a holiday to Sri Lanka with friends in January, we’ve been looking for an authentic Sri Lankan restaurant. This place is fabulous. The food is really good, beautifully presented and served by delightful staff. Would highly recommend and will definitely be returning.

Delicious

Lovely food, excellent service from our waiter, who explained all the dishes to us and gave us his recommendations. Especially loved the hopper with an egg! Never had Sri Lankan food before but will definitely be coming back.

Proper Sri Lankan food

Amazing. Vibrant, delicious, exotic (and spicy) food. Unlike some "Sri Lankan" restaurants which feel obliged to serve the traditional Anglo-Indian tikkas and bhunas, this is real, authentic Sri Lankan food.

The fried jackfruit cutlets I had for a starter were just about the best thing I've eaten in a restaurant for quite some time. The lamprais (rice with a selection of curried stuff and pickles and relishes all baked in a banana leaf) was also excellent. A substantial portion, too.

Friendly, attentive staff. There's no 20 minute wait for the bill at the end nor do you feel harassed.

Great selection for vegetarians & vegans. Not the cheapest meal out but I assure you it's worth it.

A rare treat

Tasty authentic Sri Lankan food which I have experienced here many times. Pleasant, smiling attentive staff. I recently tasted vegetarian Lamprais (pronounced as lumprise) which is a special preparation of rice made wrapped in a banana leaf with several curries which involves elaborate cooking. I enjoyed it very much.

Great Food

We discovered Little Lanka by accident, how lucky we were. We had never tried Sri Lankan food before and we were pleasantly surprised. The host was very informative, guiding us with our menu choices, the food was well presented, the food is not as heavily spiced as Indian food however all the dishes were well balanced.

Delicious food, an inventive menu and the friendliest staff

It's absolutely worth the trip just outside of Stockport city centre to visit Little Lanka, and actually it's very easy to reach by bus or train. The food is fresh, delicious, spicy (but not too spicy unless you like it hot - you'll usually be asked) and the staff are super friendly. It's essentially a restaurant-quality take on Sri Lankan street food. If it was in MCR city centre, it'd be packed every day - so go now while you can still get a table.

Lovely atmosphere and authentic Sri Lankan Food

We have been here several times and always come back for more! We come all the way from Liverpool for the food.
I love the hoppers and the curries in particular. The lamprice really tasty. Its all well presented, authentic and the portions are big. The sharing platters are very filling and freshly prepared - tasted just like you were in Sri Lanka!
The staff were very friendly and patient with our group despite being very busy.

Excellent Sri Lankan one of the few in NW

We were invited by a friend to this restaurant for lunch for her birthday. There were nearly 20 of us and we had a really good time. Being Sri Lankan most of us had visited this Sri Lankan restaurant before and liked the ambience and the food.

The waiter was helpful and recommended various dishes especially when ordering starters. Numerous items from the mains were ordered by different people and the food was tasty and well prepared. The portions were quite large and many of the invitees who could not finish their portions requested and took the remainder of their portions home. I had chicken Kotthu - a Sri lankan dish which was excellent - tasty and not very hot and spicy as I had easpecially requested. The restaurant also had lamb or chicken lamprais - a special dish originating in Holland and very popular in Sri Lanka from the time the Dutch occupied Sri Lanka. This was ordered and enjoyed by many - by the way most of the invitees were Sri Lankan.. I requested and took home a freshly prepared packet of chicken lamprais home for dinner as it is generally very tasty and well prepared according to the old Dutch formula.
All of us also had desserts - mostly Sri Lankan like curd and jaggery but also excellent vanilla and chocolate ice cream.
All in all a good time was had by all and we are sure to visit the restaurant again and again though it it is a bit far as most of us were from Liverpool, Ormskirk and Southport.

Me and my friend went to this restaurant after reading its reviews. The service was very excellent and our water innocent helped us to choose the dishes. Lumprise was amzing. So authentic and tasty. We will definitely come back and highly recommend .

Excellent Service Delicious Food

After many recommendations from friends and family about this true authentic Sri lankan restaurant, i decided to go and try out for myself and friends. We were warmly greeted by a charming waiter. We were highly guided through the menu and decided to try lumprise, korthu and stringhoppers. They came out from the kitchen very nicely presented and when ate it tasted fresh and very delicious. I would highly recommend this restaurant. Big thanks to the chef and our waiter.

Family Visit

Eight of the family including 4 children (7 - 12yrs) thought we would try this restaurant, never having tried a Sri Lankan establishment before. It was a Monday night in October.
We were welcomed by Innocent who proved to be a friendly, helpful and efficient person throughout our visit and an asset to the restaurant.
We tried a number of starters and mains assisted by Innocent in sharing and mixing the different dishes throughout the eight of us. Innocent gave clear information regarding the contents of the various dishes.
One of our party said that it was the best non-English restaurant she had ever been to.
The result was an excellent meal thoroughly enjoyed by all the party. We felt fully satisfied and would certainly want to come again.
Normally my Trip Advisor reviews do not reach 5 stars. This restaurant deserved it.
The bill came to £139.

Fabulous

Hadn’t booked restaurant full but made us a table for 2 at 9oclock on a Saturday night, nothing to much trouble talked us through the menu explaining all dishes big portions beautifully presented loved everything think of Chinese and Indian rolled into 1 and very reasonable can’t wait to go back also thinking of booking for Christmas Day it’s a yes from me

Amazing food , friendly staff

I visited the restaurant tonight with some girl friends and was greeted by a lovely guy with a huge smile . Staff were really helpful explaining the menu and helping us pick our food. When the food arrived we were not disappointed. Everything looked and tasted gorgeous. I’ll defo be coming back

Beautiful food and Fabulous service

What a lovely evening. Our waiter explained the menu to us and shared his recommendations. We all enjoyed the food. I had the Koththu which was so tasty. Unfortunately we were in a rush as we were heading off to see Romesh Ranganathan at the O2 otherwise we would have stayed their longer and explored the menu further. These reviews don't give it justice. Get yourselves down and give it a try - you won't be disappointed.

Absolute gem of a restaurant on the A6. I've never eaten food from Sri Lanka before but I will again. Food filled with flavour, spice and generous portions. Lovely atmosphere inside the restaurant and our host and waiter was on hand to attend us when needed. Lovely to have his recommendations and give direction to first timers like we were.

Fabulous meal

Went here Friday night with a friend up from London, and we just fancied something a bit different to the usual curry, thai or Italian. Absolutley delicious food - I had chicken, rice, aubergine and alsorts of yummy things wrapped in a banana leaf, my friend nad Nasi Goreng - which I've had before in Indonesia and this was just as good if not better. Great service, friendly staff, good prices - and probably the best food I've had in a good few months, complex but well-balanced flavours, high quality ingredients, and very original. I really should come here more often.
